F&W Community Summer Events

Summer 2024

Let's Get Together!

Join us at in person events

Hey, friends!  We are using this page to let everyone know what's going on this summer.

By everyone we mean local and visiting camp families and alums, neighbors, supporters of Farm & Wilderness Conservation, and farm-curious and camp-curious folks.  If you have any questions, please reach out to events@farmandwilderness.org.

 

July 2nd

Tubing on The White River

Join Polly Williams for a relaxing float down the White River with Vermont River Tubing   Email Polly for group reservation: polly@farmandwilderness.org
Leave from Barn Day Camp Parking lot at 9:15am after drop-off. 
 

July 3rd

Refreshments After Drop-Off

After overnight camps drop-off, join us at Dream Maker Bakers.   The Bakery serves a full lunch menu until they close at 2pm.  We will continue offering light refreshments and good company until 4pm. 

July 4th

Hike White Rocks

Join BDC Parents for a hike up to White Rocks in Wallingford VT, on the Vermont Long Trail and about 40 minutes from camp .   Meet at the Barn Day Camp parking lot after drop-off.   Look for Ben or Susan to be rallying folks after drop off. 

July 6th

F&W Ridge Run

Join Tulio for a challenging trail run from the F&W Barn Day Camp parking lot to Peggy's Wetland and across the ridge.  It's over 1,300 ft elevation gain, 4.75 mile run and  we'll be hiking up the steepest part, running the flats.  For adult or youth runners/hikers ready for the cardio.  Meet at the Barn Day Camp parking lot at 9am.   RSVP here. 

July 9th:

Family Open Waterfront at the BDC

Family swim time, lifeguarded by Sam Green at the Barn Day Camp Waterfront from 4:30-5:30 Tuesday July 9th.   Back your suit and towel and experience the same lake your kids are enjoying!

July 13th

Goshen Gallp 5K and 10K Trail Run

Join Tulio for your choice of a hilly 10K or 5K run to support local conservation through the Blueberry Hill Outdoor Center.  Course map and more information.

July 14th 10:00-11:30 AM

Garlic Mustard Pull

Join Elisabeth Rondinone our FWC Conservation Coordinator as we pull some invasive garlic mustard on our conserved land  and taste test garlic mustard pesto!
Location:  Sawyer Hill Road, Mount Holly VT 
 

July 17th

Open Swim at The Barn Day Camp

Sam Green will lifeguard an open swim for BDC families after pick up at 4:30.  Location: The Barn Day Camp waterfront.  

July 26th 9am-12pm, F&W Main Office

Hike to Peggy's Wetland

Join FWC as we hike to the site of our current dam removal and wetland restoration project. Meet up details provided upon registration!
 
 

July 28th

Refreshments Before Drop-Off

Before your overnight camps drop-off, join us at Dream Maker Bakers.   The Bakery serves a full lunch menu until they close at 2pm.  Ordering ahead if you want to be sure your lunch order will be ready before they close.  We will continue offering light refreshments and have F&W merchandise for sale until 4pm. 

July 29th 4:30-5:00PM

July 30th

Packing for Young Camper's Overnight Trips

Join Dianne Johnson for a 45 minute overview of how to pack with your young camper for an overnight trip.   Meet Tuesday 7/30 at 9AM  at the fence after BDC drop-off.   No supplies needed.  Email Diane at diannej27@gmail.com to RSVP and let her know if you're preparing for a one or two night overnight. 

August 8th

Morning Walk To Peggy's Wetland

Join Em Lash to visit the new wetlands where Peggy's Pond.  In addition to the wetland you'll see an F&W shelter where campers spend overnights. 
Leave from Barn Day Camp Parking lot at 9:15am after drop-off to walk on main road past Timberlake and Tamarack Farm camps to a dirt path uphill to the wetlands and shelter.  Total expected time is 90-120 minutes.  
 

August 10th, Woodward Boat Launch

Woodward Reservoir Paddle and Dragonfly Survey

Join FWC in collaboration with The Black River Action Team, for a community paddle and Dragonfly Survey.
Pre registration required.
 

 

August 14th

August 17th, Farm & Wilderness Fairgrounds

The Farm & Wilderness FAIR!

Open to all, celebrated by many, the Fair is BACK!  Food, human-powered rides, Farm demos, skits, big fires, dancing and more!  More information on The F&W Fair Landing Page. 

 

August 24th - 30th

Family Camp!

Ready for the F&W community experience 24/7?  Good news! You do not have to wait till next summer.  Family camp is for everyone, with great food, songs, simple living and a nurturing and often outlandish group of families.  No prior F&W experience required!   More information on the Family Camp Webpage.
