Holding Ruth Hunter and her legacy in the light for generations to come

Ruth Laura Glazier Hunter

 December 1, 1934 – April 12, 2026

Ruth was beloved at Farm & Wilderness. Ruth helped to found Saltash Mountain Camp, she and Jack co-directed Tamarack Farm, and during Jack's tenure as Executive Director, Ruth worked every summer at Indian Brook (now Firefly Song). Ruth also served on the campership committee, working to ensure that camp was accessible to every child who wanted to come. Ruth embodied Farm & Wilderness and her impact and legacy endure.

A librarian by training, she spent her career ensuring every student she served could find themselves in the books on her shelves.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother, a gifted singer in community choral groups, and a graceful swimmer across lakes and rivers — including Woodward Reservoir at F&W — wherever life took her family. She was active in Hanover Friends Meeting and volunteered with the Women's jail, the League of Women Voters, the Food Shelf, and the Vermont Institute of Natural Science.

Please make a donation below to Affordable for All in honor of Ruth's commitment to accessibility.
